Art Therapy Coming To Jamaica

News

Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to enhance and improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression actually helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, manage behavior, reduce stress, develop interpersonal skills, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.

Ongoing research has supported the benefits of using the creative arts as therapeutic and treatment tools for children and adults, and it’s against this backdrop that the Edna Manley College is reportedly making plans to collaborate with the New York University (NYU) to offer programmes in art therapy starting in 2011. The programmes that will be offered include a master’s degree, a professional diploma and a certificate for persons in related fields.

MORE ON THIS SOON.

    dear sir,
I have recently left High school, with plans to go to university in fall 2011 and I am intrested in becoming an art therapist. I would really like more information as to what Edna Manley College is planning to do, for there is no information about it on their website.

    thank-you
