Thorold DeMercado’s “Walkers Wood” shows a typical layout of shops in old Jamaica (before malls and supermarkets). The rural setting of this painting is actually in St. Ann – on the main road between Kingston and the North Coast. It’s a spot that the artist passed on the way to his grandmother’s house in Brown’s Town, where he would spend summers in the ‘country’ as a child. Click the image below to see a bigger version.
